Each day consists of a short Scripture reading & devotion to discuss, a downloadble ornament for the kids to color and hang - either on your tree or on a garland somewhere - and a few songs to choose from. Many of the songs can be found in hymnals, if you play a musical instrument, but they can also be found on YouTube or Godvine - and it's fun to sing along! Finally, a prayer closes out this 5 minute time. This is a great start towards helping your children grasp the basic outline of the Greatest Book of All.
When Jacob ran away from his family, he might have felt like he was running away from God, too. But can we ever go to a place where God isn’t? (no!) So, the night before he was to meet with his brother, God made Jacob dream a strange and wonderful dream. Jacob dreamed that there was a ladder going all the way to heaven. He dreamed there were angels going up and down the ladder, and God was standing at the top. God (in his dream) told Jacob that from his family, Jesus would be born.
When Jacob woke up, he knew that God was always with him, even though he thought he had run away. Jacob would never be the same!
Questions:
- What did Jacob see in his dream? What did that mean to Jacob? (a sort of heavenly ladder...he realized God was always with him)
- Is God always with us? How can we know? (Yes - He says he is with us in many places: Joshua 1:9, Matt. 28:20, Hebrew 13:5, Romans 8:38-39...and more!)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please remind me every day that You are with us and love us. How comforting to know that we are never all alone, but You are there and will never leave us. Thank You for providing a way for us to be with You forever. In Christ’s name, amen.
