Each day consists of a short Scripture reading & devotion to discuss, a downloadble ornament for the kids to color and hang - either on your tree or on a garland somewhere - and a few songs to choose from. Many of the songs can be found in hymnals, but they can also be found on YouTube or Godvine - and it's fun to sing along! Finally, a prayer closes out this 5 minute time. This is a great start on helping your children grasp the basic outline of the Greatest Book of All.
Ornament: An ark & rainbow (Remind us of God's Promises)
Scripture Reading: Genesis 6:5-8, 7:17-23; 9:16 & Romans 6:23
Songs : Rise & Shine, Standing on the Promises
God had to find a way to remove sin from the world. So, He told Noah to build a very big boat called an ark. Noah did just what God said and built that ark. Noah and his family got in that ark, and so did some of every kind of animal. Then God sent rain and the whole world flooded. The people who were not in the ark drowned.
The Bible tells us what the punishment for sin is (Rom 6:23 - death). But, just like God made a way to save Noah – God has made a way to life for us! If we are IN Jesus, like Noah was IN the ark, we are safe! God promises us life in Jesus.
When the flood was over, God made a promise not to send another flood to destroy the world. As a reminder of this promise, He put a rainbow in the sky. Whenever we see a rainbow, we should remember that God keeps His promises, and He promises to give us life because of Jesus!
Questions:
- Can you think of a promise that God has kept? (sending Jesus)
- Did God keep His promise to Noah, too?
- Can we trust God to always keep His promises?
Prayer: Thank You, Almighty God, for keeping Your promises. Thank You especially for promising to forgive our sins if we believe in Jesus. Help us, Lord, to live lives that are pleasing to You. Amen.
Looking forward to Christmas,
